Tom Brady has been criticized by Birmingham City fans after issuing a rallying cry in the wake of their relegation from the Championship.
The NFL legend and seven-time Super Bowl winner was in Miami on Saturday when the Blues dropped down to the third tier of English soccer.
But he took to X to thank fans for their support. He wrote: ‘We have a long way to go but it’s because of all of you that we’ll achieve great things in the future.’
Birmingham beat Norwich City 1-0 on the final day of the season but results elsewhere consigned them to relegation after a dismal season.
Brady is the most high-profile member of the club’s American ownership group, which controversially sacked manager John Eustace and replaced him with Wayne Rooney in October.

Brady also took to Instagram hours after full time to post pictures of himself at a glitzy Sports Illustrated event at the Miami Grand Prix.
He wrote: ‘I always love being around sports, teamwork and competition. What a fun start to F1 weekend with my friends at @sportsillustrated on Thursday night.
‘@jamiejsalter and his team know how to throw a party and there’s no better city for it as so many things are growing in Miami.
‘Then I was off to track yesterday to see the @williamsracing crew and watch them get dialed in for the sprint. Great seeing you @jv.f1 @logansargeant James Matthews and the entire team and hear about how they’re trying squeeze every second of speed out of the cars this season.
‘F1 competition is TOUGH. Good to luck to everyone on the grid tomorrow, I’m off to LA to get ROASTED’.
Relegation to the third tier of English soccer means they will play against Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s Wrexham next season.
